Neighbors

Jesus answered, “The most important is listen, Israel! The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Tord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is, love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other command greater than these.

Mark 11:29-30

Serve Locally

The second greatest command given by Jesus himself was to love our neighbors as ourselves.  We love our neighbors because we have experienced the love of God personally.  At First Arnold, we believe God has called us to love and serve our local community and the greater St. Louis metro area.  This starts by us doing it in our daily lives as we interact with family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers, but it also includes a focused effort to pray, serve, and support other churches and non profit ministries in our area who faithfully share Jesus.

We do this by actively serving in our own community, serving alongside our local partners, and supporting the work they are doing to reach their communities.  We pray that as you explore these partnerships God would lead you to get involved with us.

God has given each of us a unique gifting to serve him and we want to help you find that calling in your life. If you would like to serve with us, please contact us at missions@fbca.us.

Satellite Ministries

The light shines brightest in the darkness.  We believe God has called us to love and serve those who are neglected and unseen.  We believe the good news of Jesus offers hope and life to those who need it the most and are willing to come to Him.  This is why we serve at two local mobile home parks in Jefferson County.  We rent a mobile home at each location and our ministry team hosts children’s and youth ministry on Sunday afternoons as well as seasonal Bible studies for adults in these communities.  We want to meet these families in their communities and show them that God loves and pursues them wherever they are.  Our prayer is that as we faithfully share Jesus and disciple new believers, God would begin changing these communities for the better.  We pray that one day God would plant a healthy and thriving church.

If interested in serving on one of our Satellite Ministry Teams, please contact missions@fbca.us.

Church Partners

The missions strategy of the New Testament is to see healthy, biblical churches planted all over the world.  Churches planted in our community are lighthouses that offer the help and hope of Jesus to their neighbors.  It our is privilege to partner with the following churches in our city that are Gospel-centered, focused on making disciples, and living on mission in their community.

15th Street Baptist Church

Pastor Andrew Prowell and his wife Ruth have been faithfully serving in East St. Louis at 15th Street Baptist Church for over a decade.  They minister in this area of great need and faithfully share that God cares for the community and that Jesus is the answer.  Even though life and ministry are hard here, God is using this church to share Jesus with people who would otherwise be dismissed or disregarded by many.  They are a lighthouse in the midst of the darkness around them.  They help meet the physical needs of families in their area throughout the year with the food pantry in their building.  They host a free thanksgiving meal every year where they share the Gospel and distribute food baskets to every family that at-tends.  Their prayer is that by meeting these physical needs and building relationships with the community, people would begin to see and understand the truth of what they preach.

Faith Community Bible Church

The mission of Faith Community Bible Church is to make Christ known in the community by caring for the community.  They accomplish this mission by sharing the gospel, equipping the saints, and living in obedience to the Scriptures.  This church in north St. Louis city is led by Pastor Michael Byrd along with his wife Traci and their four children.  They desire to create a culture of promoting Jesus, gospel centeredness, intentional evangelism, and loving others.  Their heart and passion is to see faithful men and women raised up to know and love Jesus who are living out their faith in the midst of a lost and broken world.

Storyline Church

Storyline believes the story of God is powerful and forever changes lives.  They are led by Pastor Josh Wilson, his wife Cherish, and their 4 children along with Pastor Andy Myers, his wife Sarah, and their 2 children.  They are eager to help people connect God’s story to their own lives, so that they can grow in a personal relationship with Jesus and take his love to others.  They seek to be a warm community of people captivated by the grace of God, committed to the good of our city, and devoted to sharing the love of God with others in every sphere of life.  Their mission is to reach people with the gospel, disciple them into a relationship with Jesus, and multiply them throughout the world.

Non-Profit Ministries

Jesus often saw the needs of the people around him and was filled with compassion (Matt. 9:36, Mark 6:34).  We are likewise filled with compassion and desire to meet the needs of the least of these (Matt. 25:34-40).  We partner with the following non-profit ministries as they not only meet physical needs, but also share about the spiritual need we all have that can only be cured through a relationship with Jesus.

Jefferson County Rescue Mission

In 1978, Michael and Louise Sardo opened the doors of their home to help needy people in their community.  As this need continued to grow, they began renting a storefront property in Herculaneum in 1981.  Today, the Jefferson County Rescue Mission has now been operating at our current location since 1993.  They have been serving the homeless, hungry, unemployed, and victims of abuse for over 45 years with no plans of stopping.  While meeting the physical needs of those they serve is vital to their ministry, the Jefferson County Rescue Mission has a much bigger vision.  They desire to help those they minister to get back on their feet by providing resources and helping them take the next steps to move forward.  More importantly, they are concerned with the spiritual needs of the people they reach.  They host weekly Bible studies at their building for both men and women seek to share the good news of Jesus with everyone who comes through their doors.

Hand 'N Hand Pregnancy Help Center

Abortion affects one out of every four women by the time they turn 45.  The Guttmacher Institute, the leading research organization on abortion, estimates that approximately 862,000 abortions were performed in 2017 in the United States.  We wholeheartedly believe that all humans are created in God’s image and have a right to life.  We also know that many times moms feel trapped by life circumstances and desperately need help.  We know Jesus offers hope for each one of these moms and their children.  Hand ‘n Hand exists to be the hands and feet of Jesus in these difficult situations.  They desire to be a safe place for mothers to share how they’re feeling during these times as they offer support and vital services to help moms make the best decision.  Advocates and caregivers are available to help meet the physical needs of these families, but more importantly seek to meet their spiritual needs by sharing the hope that can be found in Jesus.

Oasis International Ministries

God has brought the nations to us!  This ministry serves refugees from war-torn countries that have relocated to the St. Louis area.  Families and individuals arrive with fears, grief, and broken hearts over what they have experienced as they made their journey here.  Most arrive in desperate need of help.  They must then find a job, set up transportation, and learn English in addition to learning the customs and laws of a completely new country.  Oasis helps these families and individuals get started in practical ways with furniture, clothing, and classes to help them with English and to learn skills to gain employment.  Less than 10% of the refugees settling in St. Louis will ever be befriended by an American.  Oasis works to change this number as they develop friendships of love and trust and share the hope of Jesus with all those they serve.

Disaster Relief

When you’ve seen a disaster on the news in the last 50 years, Southern Baptist Disaster Relief (SBDR) volunteers were already on the scene—and they remained long after news cameras left town.  As the third-largest disaster response group in the nation, this network of state-based volunteer teams does more than just clean up; they bring the healing of Christ to those whose lives have been shattered.  From initial damage assessment to welcoming residents back into their homes, Disaster Relief volunteers are the first on the scene and the last to leave.  For more information about how you can get involved with the disaster relief team at First Arnold, contact us at missions@fbca.us.

How To Get Involved

Pray
Prayer is the foundation to all we do. It is the fuel to accomplish God’s global mission around the world.  Not everyone can give or go to the nations, but all can pray.  When we begin with prayer, it shows our dependence on God and recognizes that only He has the power to accomplish His purposes around the world.

  • Pray for our partnerships at home and around the world
  • Pray for the FBCA church members on the field and those preparing to go
  • Pray for the unreached and unengaged people around the world
For more specific ways to pray, contact our missions office at missions@fbca.us.

Ultimately, God’s mission will only be accomplished by His church obediently going both near and far with the good news of Jesus.  Whether we go to a different country or to our next-door neighbor, we are all sent out by God and have a responsibility to bring this life-changing news to the world around us.

Our prayer is that you would consider how you can most effectively leverage your life for the glory of God and the sake of His Gospel.

God has gifted each of us uniquely and called all of us to play a part in this great mission. How does He want you to join Him on His mission?
